Dr. Anthony Nobles is an entrepreneur, inventor, biomedical engineer, philanthropist, and even an ex-Formula 1 driver! He has developed over 200 products and inventions and is the holder of dozens of patents. His devices, which aid cardiac surgeries, are in use all over the world and he has traveled to many countries to train and assist heart surgeons in using them. He is also a world class car enthusiast and on November 9 we are going to get a tour of his incredible car collection.
I asked Prof. Nobles how he got interested in cars and like many of us it stemmed from a childhood fascination. He grew up “very poor on the streets of Detroit.” One day, as a 9 year old, he saw a beautiful Ferrari Dino and was awe struck. He vowed that someday he would have one. As time progressed he put himself through engineering school and began working in the biomedical field. Success followed and today his automotive stable probably includes 20 Ferraris. We’ll also see a De Tomaso Pantera, a Sunbeam Tiger, a supercharged (F Code) ’57 T-bird, an AC Cobra, a BMW M-1, a ’31 Rolls-Royce 25/30, a ’59 Mercedes 220 SEL, a Ferrari sedan prototype (the only one built) and many other cars of interest. His daily driver, by the way, is a modern Rolls Phantom. Dr. Nobles himself will be our guide and tell us interesting stories about his cars.
After the tour we’ll drive a short distance to Bella Cuba restaurant (about 1 block from the South Coast Plaza) for a sit down no-host lunch.
