About this event

Once in a while an opportunity comes up and we have to seize it.So for that reason we’re changing our April 18th event from the Burbank Museum (aka Gordon R. Howard Museum) to our Harley Earl lecture that was originally scheduled for May.  (Note:  The Burbank Museum tour has been rescheduled for June 20.)  The Harley Earl lecture has now turned into a Mega-event!

Please join us on April 18th for a lecture about automotive pioneer Harley Earl, GM’s first and most famous car designer. The location will be Aaron Weiss’ Flying A Garage in Pasadena.  Aaron’s car collection, which numbers around 50 high end cars, includes famous makes like Rolls-Royce, Duesenberg, Mercedes, Packard, Pierce Arrow, ‘50s and ‘60s American cars, and more.  This by itself is worth a visit.  In addition to our club, we’ll have the Classic Car Club (CCCA), the Cadillac LaSalle Club, the Packard Club, and the Lincoln & Continental Owners club so the parking lot will be a feast for car enthusiasts.  Drive your favorite vintage car if you can.

We’ll gather at 9:30 AM for tire kicking, coffee, and donuts.  At 10:00 we’ll sit down for the lecture by noted Cadillac historian and restorer Richard Stanley.  There will be plenty of slides to illustrate Harley Earl’s life, his designs, and influence on the auto industry around the globe.  As an added treat, Richard will give us a preview of the 1938 Cadillac 60 Special convertible sedan he is just finishing.  Only 2 were built by GM Styling in 1938 as concept cars.  Both were destroyed but Richard researched and commissioned an exact replica, a project that took nearly 30 years to complete.  It will first be shown at the San Marino Concours June 14.

About noon we’ll have an assortment of sub sandwiches, side dishes, soft drinks, and cookies following the lecture.  After lunch, we’ll take some time to see Aaron’s car collection. It’s going to be quite an event so be sure sign up so you won’t miss it.
