For those who haven’t yet heard, our big British car concours at the Gene Autry Museum was cancelled. The MG Club planned it but decided that it was more work than they could take on and the required financial guarantees were just too daunting. So instead we have a replacement event, on
Saturday September 19th we will tour the newly remodeled Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).
“Remodeled” hardly describes what has been done. The museum was closed for 3 years and most of it was torn down! In its place a new museum was built. It was designed by Pritzker Prize winner Peter Zumthor at a cost of $724 million. Just in case that isn’t impressive enough, the new building occupies both sides of Wilshire Blvd. with an enclosed gallery built over the street. Not only that, the new curator describes the unconventional presentation of the museum’s works of art as “non-linear.”
The restaurant at the museum may not be open yet so most likely we’ll have lunch next door at Fanny’s café located in the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. The food is good and it’s less expensive than Fanny’s restaurant which adjoins it.

Where: 5905 Wilshire Blvd. but for parking enter the Pritzker Parking Garage behind the museum off 6th Street just east of Fairfax**
**Note: This is the same garage shared with the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, the cost for parking is $24 flat rate. If you are a Petersen Member you can park at the Petersen and just walk over, otherwise there is street parking but please read signage before you leave your car.
We’ll meet at the round tables just beyond the ticket booths at 9:45 AM for coffee and donuts. Museum opens at 10.
Cost: $25 per person in advance before the
deadline September 12. Lunch is at your own expense.
